What does the future hold for Cuba?

Cuba has begun it’s five day long celebration to mark the 80th birthday of President Fidel Castro. The birthday festivities had been originally scheduled for August but were postponed due to Castro’s ill health.

Castro, the world's longest-serving political leader, has stayed away from the event under doctors orders, but it is not yet known whether he will be well enough to attend the weekend’s events.

The celebrations also mark 50 years since Castro and fellow rebels landed by boat in Cuba to launch their revolution.

Do you live in Cuba? Do you expect Castro to make a public appearance for his birthday? What impact has he had on the country and how do you think it will change without him? Will recent developments in the United States and Cuba change the relationship between the two countries?

World Have Your Say, the radio phone-in programme on the World Service will be discussing these issues on Friday between 6pm and 7pm GMT. The guest will be Dr Wayne S. Smith, former head of the US Interests Section in Havana. If you have any questions, please post them here, leaving your telephone number if you would like to take part. It will not be published.
